Mrs. Meenakshi Rajagopal is a 1984 batch I.A.S. Officer and has a legacy of serving society over the course of her illustrious career of 35+ years in the government. She is the daughter of an IAS Officer, Punjab cadre and is married to Mr Rajagopal I.A.S. (ex-Additional Chief secretary /Chief Information Commissioner of Tamil Nadu). Prior to joining the civil services, Mrs Meenakshi worked with the RBI (Reserve bank of India) and was selected for the Indian Economics Services. During her tenure as an IAS officer, she made significant contributions to the fields of higher and technical education, social welfare, rural development, skill training and small industries in Tamil Nadu.
Mrs Meenakshi has particularly rich experience in training – specifically livelihood and skill training – for vulnerable sections of the society. During her last stint of 5+ years as Director General training of Tamil Nadu, she turned around the department’s performance and won the first prize at the national level for conducting the maximum number of trainings in the country. Mrs Meenakshi had the foresight to create financing options in the form of Joint Liability Groups for the poor coastal fisher women and enabled them to become entrepreneurs in their communities. Under her thoughtful leadership, the department was able to continue creating impact during COVID-19 as well by adapting to digital means of disseminating training for various stakeholders. Currently, she is focused on empowering the youth by providing skill development and disaster management training via government projects as Chairperson of Integrated Institute of Disaster Management – IIDM and GS Empower Skill Training Trust -GSEST Tamil Nadu.
